The Clan MacQuarrie Community Centre is
a Company Limited by Guarantee which holds charitable status.
The first moves towards setting up the company came in 1997 when several
members of the Airidhantuim Community Council (covering eight villages
and 500 people between Ballantrushal and North Galson) established
an independent committee to address the deteriorating and outdated
community facilities in the area. More |

A Community Appraisal was carried out in 2001. Apart from employment
opportunities, the single most important issue highlighted by the
respondents was facilities suited to the needs of the community.
Local support for a great variety of fund-raising events has been
excellent to date and it is expected that this support will continue.
Our organisation holds title to the land at Borve on which the proposed
Centre will be built. This land was purchased from Galson Estate
some 18 months ago. The recently erected War Memorial stands adjacent
to our site. Outline planning permission is held and a Design Team
has recently been appointed to work with us.
The site now in our possession is able to accommodate a community
centre and allow scope for possible future expansion. The building
will be detached with car parking facilities accessed from an existing
service road. The building will be of construction appropriate to
the intended uses. Of particular interest will be energy efficiency,
maintenance issues, environmental issues, use of sustainable materials
and disabled access. The budget for the project is estimated at
around £750,000 (excluding VAT and professional fees).
